She Knows What She is Talking About
August 2001 - Ms. Nelson is 90 years old now and lived the early years of 'Jackson's Hole'. She tells the tale of those early years through an amazing group of characters, many of whom she knew personally. This book didn't win a Pulitzer, but it if you love Jackson, Wyoming, you'll love this book.

Thorndike and Nelson: A Monster Story
Published in Hardcover by DK Publishing (September, 1997)
Authors: Jean Jackson and Vera Rosenberry
Average review score:

A bedtime story must-read
My twin 5-year-olds beg to have this book read again and again nightly. Wonderfully illustrated with charming watercolors and cleverly written, this book captures the essence of a fight between two best friends escalating way out of proportion. A sweet lesson, demonstrated by two friendly monsters.

Three Years Among the Comanches: The Narrative of Nelson Lee, the Texas Ranger
Published in Paperback by The Narrative Press, Inc. (December, 2001)
Author: Nelson Lee
Average review score:

So you think life is difficult?!?!?
I have been reading books of late about the Texas Rangers. They are varied. This one is remarkable. Half the book is about his adventures as a Ranger. The second half is about being captured and living with the Comanches. It is an amazing story. Not great literature and bit dated in its prose, but I thought a wonderful read.

Through An-Other's Eyes: White Canadian Artists - Black Female Subjects
Published in Paperback by ABC Art Books Canada (01 November, 1998)
Author: Charmaine Nelson
Average review score:

Best Book on The Subject
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about how white artists viewed Black female subjects.

My only criticism is that I wish that they had more recent art work in the book. The artwork primarily shown and covered in this book is from the later half of the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth century. There are absolutely no paintings from the 50's, 60's, or 70's. However, there are three painting from the 80's and 90's. It's almost like after 1948 white artists stopped painting pictures of black women. Overall, I have to say that the book was very educational.

Through the New Testament
Published in Paperback by Augsburg Fortress Publishers (September, 2001)
Author: Jeffrey A. Nelson
Average review score:

Dig into the Bible!
"Through the New Testament" is an excellent way to gain a deeper understanding of the New Testament. Designed as a one-year study, it requires only about 30 minutes each weekday (weekends are for catching up). The Bible background for each chapter wonderfully sets the stage for the day's study. The questions relating to each set of verses help one to focus on both the context of the message and to apply it to daily life. The final question of each day's study, "What idea, verse, or phrase from this chapter can change your experience today?" really helps you to carry the study with you throughout your day. This study will work well either for individuals or for groups.

Thru the Bible With J. Vernon McGee/Corinthians-Revelation
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (December, 1983)
Authors: Vernon J McGee and Nelson Word Publishing Group
Average review score:

J. Vernon McGee reveals and exalts the Lord Jesus Christ
J. Vernon McGee is the only radio Bible teacher that I know of who consistantly pointed his listeners/students to the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ no matter which page of Scripture he was teaching from. The Lord Jesus Christ is always brought to the front and center of his teaching.
He was definitely gifted by God to teach from the Bible. He taught me how to interpret Scripture correctly by comparing Scripture with Scripture. The Spirit of God worked through J. Vernon McGee to lead me to saving faith in God our Saviour, and to turn me from the religion of Lutheranism (i.e., law and "gospel") that kept me from receiving God's GIFT of grace by faith alone, in Christ alone completely. Amen!

Dr. McGee had a saying that went something like this: "Put the cookies on the bottom shelf so that the kiddies can reach them." That was his approach to teaching the Word of God. He taught in a way that was able to be understood by every day, common people. Adults, as well as children, can become strong in their knowledge of the Word of God through the systematic teaching of Dr. McGee.

The only thing that I disagree with him on is when he would stray from the Authorized King James Version in favor of the "better"/corrupt manuscripts. Overall, his teaching is mostly taught from the Authorized Version.

When either listening or reading his program/commentary it is as if you are one-on-one with him. You will also discover that he has great sense of humor.

I have the five volume set and recommend that if you are looking for good solid Bible teaching, this is a good eternal investment.

Definitely Good!
In this book, Alex, a freshmen and one of the youngest Todaysgirls, is dumbfounded when the hottest guy in school says he likes her! Alex never thought anyone would like her. Then Alex gets word from her Mom that she won't be able to come up from Texas for Mother's Day. Alex is terribly mad at her mom...but not as mad as she is when she finds out her best friend, Morgan, has been keeping a secret from her!

Published in Paperback by Austin & Nelson Publishing (01 July, 1997)
Authors: Rebecca Austin and Jennifer Nelson
Average review score:

Captures the Northern Michigan Spirit
Traverse City and the Beautiful Surrounding Area captures an enchanting view of Northern Michigan. The photographs certainly captured the distinctive spirit of this "Up North" four seasons paradise. The visit during the National Cherry Festival is only one of the area's draws and you can see why so many people want to move to this part of Michigan.
